The first steps...
Hi guys!
We know it's early, and still a long time before we leave to actually go Israel/Palestine (longer than we'll actually be there) but thought crossed our minds that it'd be nice to have a kind of running commentary about the stuff we're doing to get ready before we go (especially given Elisha is travelling to Sudan afterwards, and has to go modesty shopping and so on - because, you know, she's such a skimpy dresser normally). So, to update you thus far we have:
1) Bought plane tickets that are non-refundable (so we really are going). We have good seats, right next to the emergency exits with plenty of side space (in fact, we're the only two seats in the row). This is to placate Simon's rampant anxiety about plane disasters, and allow Elisha plenty of space to practice pilates (henceforth referred to as "cracklates") and take her valium. We're flying with Air France, and have decided we'll stop off for a day in Paris before flying on to Tel Aviv.
2) Bought a phrase book and a lonely planet guide. This way we'll atleast be able to pretend we know hebrew, and of course, we'll learn the ubitquitously useful phrase for "could you please put down your kalashnikov? It is nuzzling me in the small of my back".
3) Set a vague itinerary. At the moment, we think we'll go Tel Aviv (TA)-Caesarea-Haifa-Acre-Tsfat-Tiberias back to TA, then TA-Jerusalem-Bethlehem (maybe, because it's in the West Bank and we don't want to die)-Dead Sea-Masada-Sodom (can't miss that one)-Eilat then back to TV and out of the country.
We'll continue to update you about stuff we're doing, but if you have any places you think we should go, stuff we ought to know about, than please let us know. We're both rooky travellers (although, not international virgins), so all the help is appreciated.
